Husband and wife were arrested after it was discovered that their teenage son was so malnourished that he almost died. David Hall (52 years old) and his wife, Vanessa (52 years-old) were taken into custody on Tuesday after they were accused of child abuse. The victim was their 17-year-old autistic son, who was also blind.
His weight was 88-pounds when he arrived at Children’s Hospital after he lost consciousness in the shower. The doctors were surprised that was still alive. According to them, the boy had kidney failure, pneumonia and he did not have the vitamins he needs because he did not eat as he should. Doctors said it was a miracle he survived because he stayed in this conditions for years.
Matthew Cage, the detective at Longmont Police Department, said that it was hard for them to investigate this case. The investigation took a week before they decided to arrest those parents. Tthe couple said their son was like tat because he had the flu and he did not want to eat the food they gave to him. However, it is hard to think that they did not see how bad their son was feeling. It does not need to be an expert to realize that they did not pay attention their autistic blind son. He was not able to take care of himself and his only hope were his parents. Unfortunately, they abused him and he almost died. Moreover, David Hall seemed more concerned about losing government assistance payments that how his child was in that moment.
Vanessa Hail gets out of jail after a 100 000 dollars bond. She will have to be in court on September 20. Her husband is still in jail and he already had his hearing. Their son will stay in hospital as long as it takes for him to feel better. After that, we do not know what will happen to him. There are many chances that the authorities will take him to a special place for people who need help.
Doctors said that even though the boy is feeling better, there will be months before he will have a normal weight. While some parents would do everything for their children, there are some who do not seem to care. If you have a child, you are responsible for him/her, especially when he is blind and autistic.
