The life of a boy who was given a second chance to live has ended tragically on Tuesday. Anthony Stokes the teen who received a heart transplant in 2013 has been killed in a car accident after having stolen a car, broken into a house and ran from the police.
Anthony Stokes is an American teen who has become famous in the press after he was denied a heart transplant for the fact of having troubles with the law, doing bad in school and being “noncompliant.” This was the reason stated by the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta from Engleston hospital.
The family of the boy has advocated publicly, to get him the transplant and in 2013 they have finally succeeded to get him on the operating table and have his transplant done.
According to police records the 17 year old boy has died on Tuesday in a car crash. It seems that the underaged boy was involved in a car crash while he was being chased by the police.
Lisa Holland, a representative of the Roswell Police Department stated that the chase started after they have received a report about a home break in.The police was called by an elder woman who told them that someone has entered her house and shot at her. The woman managed to take the phone and call 911.
The officer coming at the scene spotted a black Honda Accord, the car that matched the description of the automobile that was at the place of the house break in, explained Lisa Holland. The officer asked the driver to pull over, but he refused, so in that moment the chase started.
Further reports of the police stated that the driver of the car lost control of the wheels and he hit a person after which the car drove straight into a pole. The boy was immediately taken out of the car and taken to the North Fulton Medical Centre where doctors couldn’t do anything to save him and he was declared dead.
The person who had been hit by the suspect’s car, Clementina Hernandez of 33 years old, was declared to be stable.
Police discovered that the car involved in the accident had been reported stolen Tuesday. More investigation has shown that Anthony Stokes had legal issues in January, when he was arrested for supposedly stealing a car parked at Walmart.
When Stokes was denied a heart transplant he was 15 years old and was wearing an ankle monitor but nobody knew for sure for what it was. there have been given several explanations. His mother said that was because of violence while a family friend stated that it was for drugs.
Melencia Hamilton the mother of the dead 17 year old, told the press that her son’s mistakes were based on the fact that he was very young.
It has been reported that when his mother was trying to get her son a heart transplant, she had told the press that her boy was suffering from a very severe heart disease called dilated cardiomyopathy and that at the time, the underaged boy had only between six to nine months to live.
Dilated cardiomyopathy is a heart condition which weakens and enlarges the heart and it cannot pump blood efficiently anymore. The wrongful working of the heart can also affect other vital body organs.
Declarations released by the hospital at that time, have stated that for a transplant there have do be done certain evaluations and that medics were establishing with the family of the boy, a special care plan. But in a short time, the initial plan changed, and in 2013, on the 13 of August, Anthony Stokes received his new heart.
For a patient to be assessed compliant for a possible transplant ,there have to be followed strict steps and rules and if the patient doesn’t take his/hers medication as required he/she could die in a matter of weeks after the transplant.
