Luxury watch makers are confident that Apple Watch will pose no danger to their customer base. However, Apple has been working out on a new version of their watch which can offer some competition to luxury tags as Omega and Heuers.
The current model of Apple watch which is a basic version of its luxury brand is selling for $349. However, the gold version of this watch is likely to be priced from $4,000 to $5,000. News on the prices being in the range of $4 to $5k surfaced after a blog post on this news surfaced on a French language blog of Apple News.
The good news however is that, the prices when updated would still be a fraction of what the luxury watches are priced at. This is one of the reasons that luxury watch brands are confident that their market would not suffer as a consequence of Apple coming in the luxury watch market.
Ryan Raffelli, a Professor at Harvard Business School points that while the Apple watches might appeal to the new generation, when it comes to professional crafting, the traditional Swiss luxury watches have no match.
The professor was of the view that the luxury watch market should accept the Apple watch as a low entrant in the luxury watch market. This will create a new niche in the luxury watch market. Meanwhile, Maksud Agadjani, owner of TraxNYC has confirmed that he would be selling the Apple Watch in his stores in the coming days.
