Getting the best back-to-school deals is easier if you plan everything beforehand, experts say. Some bargain sites have even listed what are the worst items to buy right now and they recommend you to wait until October if you want to buy a sweeter or until late September you want to get your kid a new backpack.
“I think it is knowing and planning ahead of time. What am I going to need in the next six months?”
argued Kristin Cook of the Ben’s Bargains deal site.
But some retailers are already trying to lure customers with considerable discounts. For example, Wal-Mart announced significant deals on the top ten most searched back-to-school items on the Internet. Some backpacks for instance are $5.88 off from $12.88.
In the meantime, some retailers offer limited free shipping for minimum purchase orders such as Target’s offer for an order as low as $25, which expires this weekend, while others have discounts on haircuts for instance like J.C. Penny which is ready to give your kindergarten kid a $10 hair-cut until the end of this month.
Plus, up to seventeen states do not tax back-to-school deals. You should arm yourself with information before going on a shopping spree, experts suggest. For example, you can learn a lot about the deals, discounts, and free shipping offers on the Internet or circulars.
Nevertheless, getting the best deals is all about timing. You should start stockpiling notebooks, crayons, pencil cases and other school supplies like right now. Many discounters already have great deals in store like Staples’ $25 notebooks or each pack of Crayola crayons for 50 cents.
On Target’s website you can test a new feature dubbed School List Assist and get the best back-to-school deals on the basic school supplies up to eighth grade. Wal-Mart has significant discounts on Texas Instrument calculators. You can get one for $88 when the regular retail price is somewhere between $96 and $125.
Other experts recommend parents not to fall for the spending threshold trick to get that free shipping offer. If a site requires a minimum purchase of $60, for example, it is wiser for you to move to their brick-and-mortar store because otherwise you would spend more trying to fit within that threshold.
Also, experts recommend you to start stockpiling summer clothing because now is the time for the best deals you could get. For example, Macy’s has an offer for summer tops of up to 60% off. But if you plan to buy boots, jeans or sweaters you should be patient and buy them in October when there are the best discounts on these items.
