The Blackberry, once the leader on the smartphone market, before the iPhone appeared, has had some problems in the last few years. It hasn’t been in the highlight for some time and many have forgotten about it. But all that could change with the release of the new Blackberry smartphone called Blackberry Classic.
Some may find it a bit weird to hear that Blackberry is releasing “classic” phone model, but the new model is actually an upgrade from the previous BlackBerry Bold 9900, which was released in 2011.
When the Bold 9900 came out, it was such a huge success, both financially and critically, so BlackBerry decided to upgrade it and call it The Classic BlackBerry. Apparently, the company is no longer thinking about the all-touch-screen model called the Z10 and the Q10. They want to return to the basics.
The BlackBerry Classic has the navigation buttons on the row above the keyboard, buttons like “home” and the trackpad. These two little buttons offer the same precise scrolling and navigation that BlackBerry fans used to love.
The BlackBerry Classic is a bigger smartphone than the previous Bold 9900, but is not as big as a phablet. It measures a little over 5 inches and is 2.8 inches wide, and the screen measures 3.5 inches. The BlackBerry Classic is also heavier than previous model, especially because of the stainless steel band encircling it, which give is a stylish look. The BlackBerry Classic can be easily handled with one hand it feels pretty compact, which is reassuring.
The new BlackBerry Classic is for working people, just like the previous models. For people who type email or documents at work, on their phone. The keyboard is what made the BlackBerry so popular a phone back in the day. Of course, touch screens have evolved a lot in recent years and typing on a “virtual” keyboard can be fast and efficient, but a real keyboard makes all the difference. The BlackBerry Classic has an impressive battery life: 22 hours of constant use.
The new BlackBerry Classic will cost $449, the unlocked version, which is $50 more expensive than the BlackBerry Bold 9900.
