Blizzard Entertainment Inc., one of the top gaming companies in the world and the creator of the popular ‘World of Warcraft’ game has set foot in the shooting genre. After huge success in RPG i.e. Role Playing Games and online strategy games, this gaming giant is about to release ‘Overwatch’ which is a multiplayer shooting game.
This revelation was made on Friday, at the company’s fan-centric celebration ‘BlizzCon’ which saw a turnout of more than 25 thousand fans dressed as various popular gaming characters, competing in games and much more at the Anaheim Convention Center.
According to Chris Metzen, Blizzard’s chief of story and franchise development, ‘Overwatch’ is the first new franchise by Blizzard Entertainment Inc. in 17 years. Blizzard already has a huge fan following with the huge success of the fantasy RPG game ‘World of Warcraft’, along with other top games ‘Diablo’ and ‘StarCraft’. The games by Blizzard Entertainment Inc. always take the best elements of the loved genres of gaming and amplify them on a large scale.
In ‘Overwatch’, fans will get to play with original superhero-like characters that are powered with various skills and would battle each other in six-versus-six matches. Some of the characters are a mechanized gorilla named Winston, a winged healer Mercury and a robotic monk called Bastion. The storyboard will feature a futuristic rendition of earth and will take the player to around 60 years from now with flying cars, ray guns and other technologies.
A beta version of the game will be released next year and a demo is available at the convention this weekend. ‘Overwatch’ adds to the growing gaming portfolio of Blizzard, which is a division of Activision Blizzard Inc.
