Cajun John Wayne as the People’s Choice for Louisiana Congressional Seat

Dubbed as the Cajun John Wayne, Clay Higgins wins the congressional race over his opponent, Scott Angelle.

Much like Hillary Clinton and her attempt to settle in the Oval Office, Scott Angelle lost the Louisiana congressional seat in favor of the former sheriff’s captain, Clay Higgins. Dubbed as the Cajun John Wayne, Mr. Higgins has no prior political experience as an elected official. The Louisiana people’s choice only gained his fame thanks to his tough persona featured all over the internet.

During the preliminary elections, on November 8th, 2016, Mr. Angelle and Mr. Higgins gained the most public attention. In total, there were 12 candidates running for the congressional seat. However, given Mr. Angelle’s political background, he was thought to be the clear front-runner. Nevertheless, only three percentage points stood between him and Mr. Clay Higgins, and only got 29 percent of the primary.

According to some people, the only difference between this particular congressional runoff and the presidential race was that two conservative Republicans ran against each other. Compared to the Cajun John Wayne, Scott Angelle has spent decades in the public view. In the past, he has served as the state natural resources secretary, a parish president, lieutenant governor, and was a member of the Louisiana State University Board of Supervisors. Moreover, he also spent a lot of time along two other former Louisiana governors, namely Bobby Jindal and Kathleen Blanco.

As opposed to his competitor, Mr. Higgins, or better known as the Cajun John Wayne, rose to fame rather recently through video recordings posted online from the time he worked for the St. Landry sheriff. In the past, Mr. Higgins was forced to leave the sheriff’s office after his boss expressed his discontent in relation to the abusive language the Cajun John Wayne was using in his promotional videos. On one occasion, he compared potential perpetrators to animals. Mr. Higgins then added that he was going to hunt them down.

Furthermore, the sheriff also objected to Mr. Higgins selling t-shirts, mugs, and other items for personal gain. Also, his ex-wife filed a lawsuit, shortly after the campaign took off, saying that the Cajun John Wayne did not pay child support to her former spouse, summing up to roughly 100,000.
