The climate crisis is affecting all of us without even noticing. The Climate crisis is occurring due to overpopulation. With more people being born the planet is suffering changes in temperature. The people are causing pollution, and the pollution is causing climate change.
This is the reason why many environmentalists think that is important for mankind to slow the population growth. This idea was not received very well, and many people reacted to this news by saying that climate change will not be that bad and won’t affect us, because despite the overwhealming amount of evidence, there are still plenty of climatte chenge deniers that are making the battle against polution harder.
The report of the World Bank says otherwise. It predicts that if there is a 1,5-2 degrees Celsius warming the World is going to have extreme weather events, severe water stress, and deadly heat waves. The production of food is going to decrease. Another issue caused by climate change is going to be the risk of unpredictable infectious diseases. The World Health Organization(WHO) predicts that when we are going to reach this level in 2030-2050 at least 250,000 people are going to die each year due to the above mentioned climate harms.
Perhaps some of us that live in the rich countries will be protected from these harms, but this is a real issue for the people living in poor places such as Bangladesh or Kiribati. The injustice is even bigger because the rich have contributed to climate change and are not being harmed whereas the poor will be hurt first.
As the rise of temperature grows up to 4 degrees Celsius, the World Bank predicts that the Middle East, Mediterranean and North Africa will be deadly during summer because it will be hotter than any current record.
The coastal cities will be drowned, and the low-lying islands will be abandoned. More and more people could become climate refugees because their homelands will be uninhabitable.
Apparently not everybody is concerned about the harm that climate change could do, and still, think that advocating for a lower birth rate means hating kids.
This is not the case, but the Earth still needs a change in the way people think and act to fulfill everybody’s wants and needs.
Do you think that a lower birth rate would help stop the climate crisis?
