They left their babies waiting in the car, in freezing cold temperatures, while they went to an up scale restaurant event. Two parents from Washington had been arrested for child neglect, after police has been called to announce there were two toddlers alone in a car.
A couple allegedly abandoned their two toddlers in the car, strapped into their seats, at freezing temperatures, as they had to attend a wine tasting event at a restaurant from Washington.
The mother, Jenny Chang, who is 46 years old and who is an employee of the US Food and Drug Administration, and her husband 41 year old Christopher Lucas, have been arrested Saturday under the accusation of attempt of child cruelty, after somebody who saw the children in the car, decided to call the police.
Arriving at the spot, a police officer looked inside the car and saw the two kids, one of 22 months and the other of 2 and a half years old, strapped into their seats.
Both of the toddlers were wearing jackets, but none of them had on gloves or hats. One of the kids, a little girl, was crying badly. The temperature in the car was around 1.7 degrees Celsius, stated the police report.
While the police were trying to open the door of the car and reach the children, their father had ran outside of the restaurant and informed them that him and their mother have been monitoring their children trough their iphone. Police officials have stated that the call between the parents and their kids had been connected for 58 minutes, meaning the couple had been inside for almost an hour.
According to the Washington Post, the couple is currently living in an expensive and high rated neighborhood, that is located at a small distance from the restaurant.
The documents from the court, showed that the father is a software engineer and has French origins, and the mother is working for the US Food and Drug Administration.
The two toddlers didn’t suffer any harm and were placed under protective custody. Jenny Chang and Christopher Lucas, have been jailed until last Monday, when they had a meeting with the judge in front of whom they pleaded not guilty and were released.
The couple was banned from seeing their two children until the following court meeting, set for the 18th of February.
