Almost everyone especially women are fond of undergoing minor cosmetic surgeries or procedures in order to enhance their beauty. But safety always remains a big concern.
In a big relief to all the beauty conscious people, the researchers have found that minor cosmetic procedures like botox injections or dermal fillers are safe when conducted by trained professionals.
A large study conducted in the United States involved over 20,000 minor beauty procedures carried out by the trained dermatologists. The researchers found that all the studied procedures showed few complications with none of them being so serious.
According to the UK experts, the study results underscored the role and importance of proper training and regulation.
During the study, the researchers found that out of 20,399 procedures that were looked into, only 36 (i.e. less than one percent) were associated with a problem.
Some of the issues linked with the beauty procedures included minor side-effects like swelling, bruising, lump formation or skin darkening. All these minor problems could be solved on their own or with some additional treatment.
Lead study author Prof Murad Alam, from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, said that minor beauty treatments might safely be used along with significant effect and with much lower risk in comparison to bigger cosmetic operations.
“It is only safe if you have the necessary training,” said Nigel Mercer, deputy president of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons.
The study’s findings were detailed in the journal JAMA Dermatology.
