Dunkin Donuts has recently announced major changes to its menu, which will be reduced by 10 percent. What’s more, the doughnut chain will get rid of artificial coloring in its doughnuts.
According to the Boston Herald, the chain wants to remove afternoon sandwiches, the egg breakfast sandwich, and the steak from its menu. The simplified menu is expected to hit restaurants Monday in New England. Next, the menu will be rolled out to all other restaurants nationwide.
The company confirmed that 10 percent of its food and drink offerings will disappear from the menu. Reportedly, the discarded menu items are either taking too much time to make or are less popular with customers. The causalities include steaks, some sandwiches, and smoothies. Afternoon sandwiches will disappear completely from the menu.
Dunking Donuts Replacing Artificial Dyes in Doughnuts
A piece of good news is that the doughnut chain will get rid of artificial dyes in doughnuts starting this year. The move will be expanded to other menu items nationwide by the end of 2018. The announcement will affect only the United States market.
The artificial dyes were removed in an effort to simplify the ingredients and offer healthier choices to health-conscious customers. The chain promised to revamp the ingredients of other popular foods and drinks by the end of the year.
A spokesperson for the company explained the fake coloring was replaced with natural fruit juice or alternatives. Fake coloring will be gone from doughnut icings, toppings, filings, drinks, coffee and breakfast sandwiches by December 2018.
Some menu items will sport fake dyes after that date like the decorative elements or toppings supplied by third parties.
Meanwhile, a German billionaire family is negotiating with the company to buy the business in a bid to build a coffee-breakfast empire.
