The news that Elon Musk has criticized one of his employees for having taken time off to be present for his child’s birth has been all over the internet recently. Now, the Tesla CEO charmingly clears his name through a Tweet, denying the accusation and managing to turn the situation to his own advantage.
Elon Musk is the golden boy of business and technology at the moment. He is the founder and CEO of Tesla, which is probably the most profitable company since Microsoft. They have pioneered top notch eco-friendly products like electric cars and the very first solar-panel-powered home battery .
And as if this was not enough for an impressive reputation, you should know that Musk is also the founder and CEO of Space X and the founder of PayPal, among other important titles.
Take a second to think about how it would be to do all of these things, at the same time. Now when you hear that Elon Musk is the perfect workaholic, it makes total sense, right?
There is no other way than working 23 hours a day and skipping a lot of family dinners that a person can possibly do all that Musk manages to. And he is not exactly trying to hide it.
Elon Musk has a reputation for shocking quotes when it comes to real life issues. After having publicly wondered how much time a girlfriend would require and finally settling at 10 hours per week, it should come as no surprise that he has been unsuccessfully married three times.
Undeniable PR gems like comparing his mentality to that of a samurai and preferring to commit seppuku rather than fail have made Musk irresistible to the general public. And if people couldn’t seem to get enough of Musk’s unique view on things, the idea of a book about this robotic Eco-genius seem extremely appealing.
This is how Ashlee Vance’s book on the eco-friendly tycoon came to be. It was published by the Washington post and it was received with quite some enthusiasm by the public.
It was from this biography that people found out about Musk’s latest eccentric remarks, that were allegedly addressed to an employee who had missed work in order to witness his own child’s birth. Musk obviously found this unacceptable, considering that his employee’s excuse for having missed work was invalid.
Furthermore, Musk expressed his disappointment towards the situation, pointing out that the employee needs to set his priorities straight and decide if he wants to either commit or not to the company’s work of changing the world.
After a quotation of Musk’s e-mail went rampant on the internet, Tesla’s CEO is now defending himself in a very charming, cool and collected manner. In his Tweet, he clearly states that he has never said or written what Vance is claiming he has.
Then he explains that the book has not been independently fact-checked and that it should therefore be taken with a grain of salt.
The book was written after a 30-hour interview with Musk himself and more than 300 interviews with family, friends and employees. This would suggest that it is unlikely that the e-mail be inaccurate. But the calm and cool way that Musk handled this situation was absolutely astonishing and just might take the win after all.
Elon Musk has proven to be a genius even outside his field of expertise and has simply won the audience over with his relaxed take on the matter and his witty advice concerning the book. Without any shadow of a doubt, the golden boy has just done it again!
