Elon Musk, billionaire and entrepreneur founder of Tesla and SpaceX, has announced that his next technology venture will go beyond his previous ideas and begin tapping directly into the human brain. With his new venture, NeuraLink, he says he hopes to connect microcomputers directly into the brains of injured patients within four years. He also says he will be CEO of the new company.
Elon Musk Takes Next Step in His Career and Maybe Humanity?
In a recent interview, Musk described the company and its goals. The initial group has nine members from such leading institutions as Massachusetts Institute of Technology, IBM, the University of California-Berkeley, UC-San Francisco, and Duke University. Musk selected them from the 1,000 individuals he talked to when developing the NeuraLink concept.
That concept, of course, may be ahead of regulations. Musk claims that the group will move ahead with designs and research while pushing for regulatory changes to allow for more brain implants.
“I think we are about eight to 10 years away from this being usable by people with no disability”
Elon Musk stated this during a media interview. He also pointed out the fact that this new technology will “heavily” depend on the regulatory approval timing. Also, such new devices will be in a very close relation to people with disabilities and their responses to them.
Elon Musk has hopes for this technology going beyond helping those with brain injury. He also believes it will enable direct communication between healthy individuals with the implants.
“If I were to communicate a concept to you, you would essentially engage in consensual telepathy,” he added.
Musk believes that people will not have to verbalize things unless they want to do so. The visionary entrepreneur considers that people will be able to hold a “conceptual interaction” at a level that is hard to conceive at the moment.
That’s right. Telepathy via WiFi.
