Albuquerque toddler grabbed hold of gun and shot his father and eight months pregnant mother.
Guns left out in the reach of children can create catastrophic events. A three year old, toddler from Albuquerque was searching his mother’s purse and ran into a loaded weapon, with which he shot a single bullet and struck his father and his mother.
Reports have stated that the toddler was going trough his mother purse, looking for her iPhone, but instead he found a loaded gun with which he accidentally shot both of his parents with one bullet.
The bullet appears to have hit his father in the buttock and from there it shot straight in his mother’s shoulder, who was pregnant in 8 months. At the scene was present, his 2 year old sister as well, but she didn’t get hurt.
Justin Reynolds, the father of the child, told that the incident happened in a matter of seconds. Saturday afternoon, his family was preparing to order a pizza, when he heard a gun shot. He realized his girlfriend was bleeding and when he sat down he noticed he was bleeding too.
His pregnant girlfriend, Monique Villescas, remained in the hospital under medical supervision, in case she would go into an early labor. Her condition was declared as being stable and Reynolds had been released after his wound had been treated.
Justin Reynolds, declared that he mobilized right away as he was concerned about the safety of his pregnant girlfriend and he didn’t know whether his son shot himself or not. He said, that the little boy was in shock and couldn’t stop crying.
The Police Department from Albuquerque has been investigating the case. The two parents could face charges of criminal negligence, for permitting easy access of a child to a loaded weapon. For the duration of the investigation, both children have been under the care of the Children’s Youth and Families department.
This distinct incident, should serve as an eye opener for parents to keep their guns secured and away from children reach, explained Jonathan Hutson, a representative from the Brady Center, a non profit organisation that fights for more severe measures of gun control. He added that the shooting should be taken as an irresponsibility of parents who allow their children access to loaded guns.
