In October 2016, Raul Hinojosa has been admitted to a critical care unit in Amarillo, Texas after being diagnosed with leukemia. When asked for his final wish by the hospital chaplain, the cancer patient said he wanted to marry his fiancée.
Yvonne Lamas, who has been at his side since the first signs of the illness jokingly asked who that would be. Raul Hinojosa’s family, as well as the hospital staff members, worked together in order to make the man’s lifelong dream become reality. The hospital chaplain took the bride-to-be to the courthouse and asked for a marriage license. Normally, the judge would grant one after 72 hours. However, given the situation, Ms. Lamas was able to get the license almost instantly.
Furthermore, the director of the hospital also showed up to the event. According to the hospital staff members, he did not usually wear a suit to work. However, the unit’s director had just returned from his daughter’s Christmas program at school. When he was briefed about the situation, he wasted no time and donated his suit to the future groom for the ceremony.
At the same time, the hospital cooks were working around the clock to bake a wedding cake while Mr. Hinojosa’s relatives were searching for a wedding dress for his future wife. As it happens, everything went without a hitch and the dress was a perfect fit for Ms. Lamas.
Raul Hinojosa and Yvonne lamas had been together for 11 years when the tragic news surfaced about Raul’s condition. According to fiancée, he was a romantic individual with a keen sense of humor. Raul Hinojosa had a 9-year-old son and Yvonne had three daughters from a previous marriage. Nevertheless, the bride said that Mr. Hinojosa took the girls as if they were his own.
Raul Hinojosa had proposed to Yvonne back in 2007 and was planning to marry her. However, when they learned about Raul’s condition, the money he gathered was used to pay hospital bills. Nevertheless, with the hospital staff members and Mr. Hinojosa’s family working closely together, the couple managed to pull the wedding in a matter of a couple hours. On his deathbed, Mr. Hinojosa said his vows and kissed the bride. He later succumbed to leukemia on Saturday, December 9th, only 36 hours after his wedding.
