global warming cold winters
Until recently climate skeptics believed that the icy winters we’ve been experiencing in the last years could mean that the global warming is just a myth meant to scare us all. A new study shows that global warming is indeed happening and thus resulting in colder and colder winters.
The recent freezing winters in Europe, especially in Britain are undermining the fact that our world climate is getting warmer by the year. Some scientists believed that the cold winters are of little significance and it does not mean that the world is heading towards a global warming.
That was before the recent study was released. The new study shows that the cold winter, and cold, icy weather in general are indeed the effects of the global warming. Cold winters do not mean that we are not experiencing a global warming or that the global warming is reversing, it’s quite the opposite of this.
The new study showing that the cold winters are a direct consequence of the global warming was published in the Nature Geoscience journal. The research has been made at the Japan National Institute of Polar Research and at the University of Tokyo. The study shows that the cold winters we are experiencing are linked to the rapid decline of the sea ice in the Arctic. This has been known to be caused by global warming in the last decade.
The new study is actually one of the most comprehensive studies to date and it reveals the fact that extremely cold winters in Northern Asia and Europe are a direct result of the changing of the climate. The scientists explained how the global warming affects our winters, saying that because of the ice melting, the open water exposed is much darker and it absorbs the heat. The warmer water then warms the air above it and makes the jet stream weaker. This high level river of air is very much responsible for determining the weather.
One of the authors of the study said that:
“The origin of frequent Eurasian severe winters is global warming.”
What are your thoughts on the recent study that shows global warming being responsible for colder winters?
