Google Hangouts adds P2P connections for improved video calls. Finally, Hangouts has incorporated P2P connections in order to achieve higher quality calls which may just offer the messaging application a much needed boot, since it is facing very solid competitors.
For some time now, the company has been attempting to make developments for the Hangouts chatting app that could maybe make their service more popular. There are strong rivals to beat, with Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp slowly dominating the digital environment of online messaging.
There is almost no room for other platforms and Hangouts was left behind in this race. However, the texting platform has been making an effort to bring numerous enhancements to its services. In Hangouts 7.0, customers will be capable to utilize peer-to-peer or P2P connections.
This method will increase the audio and video performances of calls made between customers, thanks to a more immediate transfer of the online data. Without the P2P technique, the calls have to be sent straight through Google’s web servers, beginning from the caller.
That meant that the packages of information were transferred over longer ranges, instead of making an immediate connection between customers. The new addition of this P2P method, however, will solve the quality problems with Hangouts, since all data will appear with better connection quality, both audio and video.
However, the search engine mentioned that this might be the situation for all calls. In reality, the P2P links will just be created when possible and it is not sure that their upgrade will be regularly experienced by customers.
The organization did not discuss other details regarding these issues, so an immediate and continuous enhancement should not be expected from them. While the upgrade is rumored to be arriving soon, some members mentioned that they already read a notice of the recent function.
Its good news for all Hangouts customers, but the company also released an advice for them. The upgrade will come with more efficient P2P links, but that reveals some dangers for its clients. The P2P connections also indicates that customers could find out the IP addresses of other users and this represents a problem for many people.
This is a vital aspect considering that online hackers might identify a user’s place through them. While that will not be revealed to the common customer, experienced hackers could discover a method to get their hands on a client’s IP address and private data.
The update can make some people susceptible to cyber strikes, like DDoS-ing, so the search engine has warned them. For now, all P2P links on Hangouts are offered just for Android gadgets, but it is sure that an upgrade will be launched for iOS too.
