Kamiyah Mobley lived under the name of Alexis Manigo for the last 18 years. It is yet unknown if she will return to her biological parents.
Kamiyah Mobley lived with her kidnapper under the same roof for 18 years without knowing the truth about her biological parents. She was kidnapped from a Florida hospital by a woman who posed as a nurse only a few hours after she was born.
18 years or frenetic search came to an end last week when Jacksonville law enforcement officers discovered several irregularities with Kamiyah’s identification papers. Mike Williams, Jacksonville Sheriff, told reporters on Monday, January 16th that both her birth certificate, as well as Social Security card were fraudulent. As of now, investigators are not sure how much the girl really knew about her “mother”.
Gloria Williams was brought in last week on kidnapping charges. According to the authorities, she raised Kamiyah Mobley in South Carolina. More details have not yet been made public as the investigation is still underway. Nevertheless, police officials did say that approximately 2,500 tipped officers in regard to the young girl’s location over the years. However, it wasn’t until last year that a series of anonymous tips led investigators to believe the missing girl was residing somewhere in South Carolina, said Mike Williams.
According to Gloria William’s closest friends and relatives, she had always been very protective of her “daughter”. Gloria’s former husband was incarcerated at the time she brought Kamiyah Mobley home for the first time, said Tonia Manigo. She is currently the wife of Charles Manigo, Gloria’s former husband.
Furthermore, Ms. Manigo told the authorities the two had a very strong relationship, saying the girl loved her mother more than anything. Melissa Hiers, one of Gloria Williams’ closest friends confirms. She adds that they would regularly go shopping together, do their nails together, and did almost anything together. Looking back, Ms. Hiers says she understands why Gloria had always been so protective of her daughter. Nevertheless, she cannot yet come to terms that Gloria could have kidnapped Kamiyah and believes there has to be some kind of mix-up.
Kamiyah Mobley met her biological parents for the first time at the Waterboro Police Department in South Carolina. Nevertheless, she still calls Gloria Williams her mother. When she went to visit her “mother” in prison on Friday, January 13th, Kamiyah told her she loved her. Gloria Williams is being held without bond at the South Carolina detention center while law enforcement officers are investigating the matter further.
