A man attacked a female customer in a Kroger supermarket for holding up the line.
While waiting in line can sometimes anger some people, a Tennessean lost control when he had to wait for the cashier to attend to him and launched an attack at the customer ahead of him. Most people would switch to a shorter line and get on with their day. However, it seems that the man had a personal vendetta with the woman.
Megan Wilson was shopping for supplies in a Memphis store in Tennessee on Friday evening. According to her statement and several other witnesses’ accounts, Ms. Wilson was holding up the line while organizing her coupons. From the crowd of customers, a man started to shout at her, and even insult her. Ultimately, the verbal attack escalated into physical aggression.
In a video posted on the victim’s page, Ms. Wilson said that she was unable to understand the reason behind the violent man’s behavior. While in tears, she claims that she did nothing to offend the angry customer in any way.
According to a press release, Megan Wilson admitted that she was holding up the line for approximately 20 minutes while preparing to pay for her items with coupons. Furthermore, she said that while heading out, she accidentally spilled her drink on her assailant, which might have represented the cause of the attack. However, the video surveillance pulled from the Kroger supermarket shows that Ms. Wilson intentionally threw her drink at the man as he was standing by her side in the line.
Because the fight occurred outside the camera’s reach, it is not entirely clear what happened next. Nevertheless, police officers analyzing the tape could see the man trying to shield himself and then heading towards the woman. Ms. Wilson said the man hit her in the face, grabbed her hair, and bashed her head into her shopping cart before throwing the basket over. After the attack, she also posted a picture on her Facebook page that shows the contents of her basket spilled all over the supermarket’s floor.
The police officers were unable to identify Ms. Wilson’s assailant. The witnesses say that moments after the fight, the perpetrator managed to get away in a blue Ford F-150, before the security guard or law enforcement officers arrived on the scene.
The company released an official statement after the incident, expressing its regrets towards the incident. Furthermore, the supermarket staff and higher management members say that they will continue to cooperate with the Memphis Police Department in order to resolve the situation.
