Dr. Lydia Bazzano of Tulane University in New Orleans, has stated that as per her new study, it has been shown by the results that if proper nutritional counseling is taken, more weight can be lost by people as compared to a low-fat diet. At the same time, the risk of heart-disease will be lowered. Dr. Bazzano stated that as per this study, if one is overweight and if one is having cardiovascular disease risk factors, a low carb diet would certainly help.
Since no solid results were seen before this new study, the outcome was feared because low carb diets are high in fats. People suffering from or who had a risk of heart diseases were advised not to use this method. However, as per this latest study, many concerns are put to bed, as many nutritionists and doctors hold that a low carb diet as an alternative for losing weight and lowering risk.
Carbs that are found in foods like fiber, starches and sugar provide the bodies with lot of energy. However, not all carbs are bad. Bad carbs may be found in things such as processed chocolates, wheats and other places.
The carbs found in things such as whole grains and fruits are considered to be very healthy. The results were very impressive as those people who reduced carbs lost approx 8 pounds, which is more than the people who stuck to low fat diet. No increase was seen in the cholesterol levels of patients.
Dr. David Jenkins of Department of Nutritional Sciences at University of Toronto and Keenan Research Center at St. Michael Hospital quoted that “I think it’s another testament to what one can do with a more plant-based diet using the right macronutrient profile,”
