Unlike Apple or other tech companies that keep their employees in the dark when it comes to future projects, all Facebook employees are up to date with the social media’s further development. In spite of this, almost no information gets leaked. However, in the summer of 2015 on a Friday afternoon, Facebook CEO who is otherwise calm and a natural introvert angrily declared he was going to find and ultimately fire the one who leaked information on the secret messaging assistant M in front of a camera.
A week later, during a company meeting, Mark Zuckerberg announced the culprit was caught and consequently followed. The most notable thing, however, is the fact that such instances are Facebook rarities, both the witch hunt, as well as the leak.
Rumors say the Facebook CEO uses the weekly meetings to freely discuss future projects with his employees, talk about competition, and in some cases even about board members. Furthermore, even interns are allowed in on these meetings.
While some may deem this level of transparency alarming, a former Facebook employee says the fact that people are allowed to speak their minds proves highly beneficial for the company’s further development. Furthermore, it seems that the employees avoid speaking publicly about future projects because of some sort of trust pact.
“You don’t betray the family”, said a Facebook employee.
Furthermore, Mark Zuckerberg is able to keep the sensitive information in check by requesting new employees to take part in a media training program that warns about the consequences of leaking company secrets. Also, he reminds his employees to keep discussed information private during each Q&A session.
These sessions seemed to prove so beneficial to Facebook’s CEO that he even started to receive questions and suggestions from users all around the globe, as well. Some believe that this practice helps Zuckerberg improve his public speaking skills. In the company’s early days, Facebook’s CEO was notoriously known as an awkward and poor public speaker. However, recent accounts show that the situation has changed visibly.
