Babies can expect a healthy life in Montana. The state scores low on preterm birth rate and has earned a ‘B’ grade on Dimes Report Card of March 2013. According to findings of this report, the preterm birth rate in March 2013 was 10.5 percent. In comparison, the preterm birth rate in 2006 was 11.9 percent.
A preterm birth usually happens around 37 weeks prior to normal birth duration and can be detrimental for the health of the mother and the baby alike. It is noteworthy that owing to stringent health care policies in place around 231,000 less number of babies were born prematurely. This in turn saved $11.9 billion which would have added to the costs which would have gone in caring for these babies.
However, United States as a country scores low, when it comes to curbing the birth of premature babies. The annual report card for United States as a nation shows ‘C’ which is not a good sign in the making.
Around 15 million babies are born prematurely in United States every year and over a million of these die owing to early birth. Babies born prematurely are a health concern for everyone as they suffer from numerous health challenges including cerebral palsy and breathing problems.
Babies are only completely healthy after 39 weeks of pregnancy. Important organs like brain and lungs are only developed after 39th week and in case the babies are born prior to this duration, they suffer from numerous health complications.
