No more Fox on Dish Network. As Saturday night the satellite tv provider Dish Network blacked out Fox Business and Fox News Channel as the two parties haven’t reached an agreement regarding a new contract.
This means the 14 million subscribers of Dish Network Corporation, based in Englewood, Colorado, will be unable to watch the two channels mentioned above, and New York based Fox, seams to be demanding subscribers through emails and tweets to change to a different television provider.
Apparently both sides have been blaming one another for the difficulties encountered in the renewing of the contract.
According to Warren Schlichting, senior vice president of Dish programming, Fox News would have demanded higher fees for the entertainment and sports channels which were not included in the agreement:
“Fox blacked out two of its news channels, using them as leverage to triple rates on sports and entertainment channels that are not in this contract.“It’s like we’re about to close on a house and the realtor is trying to make us buy a new car as well,” said Warren Schlichting
On the other side, Fox’s representatives have a totally different story. Fox is accusing Dish of having blocked the channels, Saturday at 11:50 p.m., 10 minutes earlier than it was stated in the contract. Vice president of Fox Channel, Tim Carry, has stated that Fox hasn’t been the only channel encountering difficulties in negotiating with Dish, as earlier this month CBS encountered a 12 hour black out, and that this might just be intimidation attempts coming from TV provider company.
A separate black out coming from Dish Network, included some Turner Broadcasting channels, which included: CNN, Boomerang, Cartoon Network and Turner Classic Movies.
Carry has stated that the only ones suffering because of Dish’s intransigence are the customers and that the tv supplier’s way of handling past situations is making it hard for Fox to find a reasonable solution and an agreement.
More over Fox Channel has implied that the business strategy of Dish Network is overrated and it need a serious reevaluation. According to Fox Channels’s vice president, the marketing model promoted by Dish Network has been the same since 1993, model which they follow until today.
