Great news for skygazers everywhere. Tomorrow, on Thursday, October 23 there will be a partial solar eclipse. The eclipse will take place in the afternoon when the moon will cover a part of the sun, making it look like a fingernail. The partial solar eclipse can be seen across much of the US, if the weather will permit it and there won’t be any clouds obscuring the sun, blocking the spectacular view.
The partial solar eclipse will occur in the most part of the North America, except for a region in eastern Canada. Also, the partial solar eclipse will not be very visible in eastern New England, announced the meteorologists.
In most of the areas the sun will be partially eclipsed and the northern part of the United States will be able to see 65% of the sun. Those who live in the southern part of the US will be able to see about 40% of the eclipsed sun. This information was revealed by Universe Today, a well known astronomy site.
The site also says that the partial solar eclipse will be best see in the farther west and north parts of the USA. Sky and Telescope magazine reports that in the West side the eclipse will take place while the sun sis high in the afternoon sky. NASA said that the partial solar eclipse will start at 2:08 p.m. PT in Los Angeles and it will end 4:40 p.m. PT.
In New York City the eclipse will begin at 5:59 p.m. ET and it will end at around 6 p.m. ET. So if you are in the most eastern part of the US and Canada you will be able to see the eclipse even as the sun sets. Unfortunately, those who live between Quebec and Montauk Point will not be able to see the partial solar eclipse because the sun will set before the moon starts to eclipse it.
As you already know, you shouldn’t look directly at the sun during a solar eclipse because you can damage your eyes. Use special filtered glasses or telescopes to enjoy the eclipse.
