It appears that Sony is slowly but surely pulling out PlayStation TV from our lives. Today the major company has announced that the product will no longer be shipped to Japan.
PlayStation Vita TV was released back in November 2013, but unfortunately it did not achieve the popularity desired by Sony. In the week following its release, the only 42,000 products were sold, much less than what was expected by the major company. Unfortunately, they have decided to retire the microconsole after only two years of life.
PlayStation TV is a small sized console that can be connected to a TV and thus give players the chance to play PS 4 or Vita games on the larger screen. This is done through a system related to Remote Play. Furthermore, the microconsole is pretty similar to the PS TV, but it comes in the white color. Other countries have the option to order it in black. You have a large variety of games to choose from the Vita library, but you do not have access to a streaming app for Netflix. This has been considered an important disadvantage by many.
Official reports have released the information that today is the last day PlayStation TV will be shipped to Japan. This also comes as a warning to all of you who wish to get your hands on a microconsole but have delayed until now. If you look for the product online, you will probably find it at the price of £60.
For the moment, it is unknown whether the shipping will be stopped for other countries as well. The reason why the company started with Japan seems to be that PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 are selling so well that the microconsole simply cannot compete with them.
However, the PlayStation TV has a base of close fans who were attracted by the option on playing on a big screen without spending a lot of money. The Remote Play function required a powerful wireless connection, but its visuals have been greatly praised. While it can be controlled by using DualShock 3 and DualShock 4, users cannot connect it to a gyroscope or a microphone, and this has made many go for other products.
Even though, PlayStation TV will no longer be available in Japan, you are still able to order it in North America, Australia, Europe and other countries in Asia. Unfortunately, shipments are expected to be discontinued in other places as well.
