The mysterious giant crater which was discovered few days before at ‘the end of the world’ in spine chilling Siberia region has been almost solved by the probing team at the site. The investigators have reached a step closer to find out important clues about its formation.
The massive trench, its origin or its formation have baffled the world scientists for weeks now. Even if the scientists were estimating that the crater was formed two years ago, no other details were available with them.
The apparently bottomless trench is located in Yamal, one of northernmost points of Russia at latitude closer to that of Greenland.
In order to solve the mystery, a group of scientists had carried an urgent expedition in the far-northern peninsula. The research team from Russia’s Emergencies Ministry and the Russian Academy of Sciences. The investigators took samples of soil, water and air from the region to study the formation of the mysterious crater.
The crater was closer to 100 feet across than the early reports of 250 or 300 feet.
Ever since its formation, the people started creating their own stories and theories about its formation. The locals have even dubbed the mysterious crater as ‘the end of the world’. According to many, it was due to bombing. For some it was an alien activity. But the probe carried by the world scientists brought halt to all these theories.
“It is simply Mother Nature’s law with its internal pressure and changes in temperatures,” said a researcher belonging to the probing team.
According to the researcher team, the formation of the crater may be primarily because Yamal region is the home to world’s biggest reserves of natural gas. They say the crater’s formation may be due to the natural process of lake forming. There are many lakes in the Yamal region.
Meanwhile, no evidence of thermal damage suggesting gas leakage from the region has been found. The researchers are looking for more leads and trying to solve the mystery completely.
The world is waiting with bated breath for the outcome of the probe and why Siberia is witnessing such rare occurrences.
