The Steam Awards celebrate the best game available on the platform.
Steam, the popular gaming platform has just announced that users can nominate games for the first-ever edition of the Steam Awards. The company is revolutionizing the awards industry as they transformed the prestigious occasion into a comical relief. Fans are already excited about the upcoming Steam awards.
While every PC gamer awaits the Steam sales season, the platform decided to boost the interest of users by inventing the Steam Awards. Every member of the platform is able to nominate a game for each category of the awards. However, the categories are not inspired from traditional gaming awards ceremonies, but rather from players’ emotional ties with the games in question.
Here are the categories:
“Test of Time”
Like a good French wine, some games only get better with age. The perfect example here is Skyrim. No matter how many new games flood the market, players will always come back to it, comparing all other novelties with the extraordinary mastery of the RPG.
“I’m Not Crying, There’s Something in My Eye”
We all know that some games are so immersive that players become one with the character feeling disappointment, anguish, sorrow, happiness, or any other extreme emotions.
Not to point fingers at “Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons,” but in some cases, you cannot control a rogue tear in the corner of your eyes while violently struggling to keep your lips from trembling. This category is created for the tear-jerkers, the games with a plot so good that the Titanic audience will seem emotionally unavailable.
This year, That Dragon, Cancer may take the award home.
“Just Five More Minutes”
This category was created for the games that keep players glued to their chairs. It’s a universally acknowledged truth that in the gaming industry, “five more minutes” usually equals “a couple of more hours,” but some games are so good, that you know you’ll have to pull an all-nighter when pressing play, even if the weekend is a couple of blocks away.
“The Whoaaaaa, Dude”
This category is reserved for the games that are so innovative, so well-written and produced that it subtly steal’s the player’s ability to speak in complete sentences, leaving the gamer in a complete state of awe.
“Game Within a Game”
This Inception category was created for the games that usually feature additional, mini-games in their main story.
“I thought this Game Was Cool Before It Won an Award.”
The category contains nominations for little-known indie games that conquered the hearts of a handful of players before being acknowledged during a fancy awards show.
“Best Use of a Farm Animal”
Besides the universal hit, Goat Simulator, we don’t know why this category exists. It may have been created for players who like to be inventive with the animals they find during their quests.
“We Didn’t Think of Everything”
Since Steam is only ran by humans, the creators of the Steam Awards admitted their faults beforehand, admitting that there might be other enticing categories that didn’t cross their minds. If Steam users can think of anything new, they are welcomed to submit their proposals under this category.
Will you vote for the Steam Awards? Whom will you nominate?
