After garnering huge support and success in the online FBrape campaign, the Women, Action and the Media, popularly known as WAM have turned to Twitter to help curb any kind of gendered sexual harassment faced by the women in the virtual world. WAM, formed by women rights activists have been trying hard day in and day out for the protection of women and their rights by using effective steps for the same. One such huge step is allowing social media giant Twitter to use their Anti-Harassment Tool also called the Harassment Reporting Tool.
This tool by WAM is a simple online form that is to be filled by the users. With the help of this tool, online users can easily complain and provide details about any kind of harassment done towards women on social media and other networking platforms. The complaint will be analyzed and the details of the culprit will be tracked.
WAM are now in the process of experimentation and are checking whether Twitter can prove to be helpful in tackling the problem of gendered harassment. A recent press release sent out by WAM to media firms mentioned that the reports validated by the WAM’s Anti-Harassment Tool will be directly sent to Twitter and WAM will track the response received by Twitter to each type of harassment. At the end of this experiment, WAM will analyze all the data received and will collaborate with Twitter to understand in a better way about the gendered harassment on the microblogging site and how to improve the responses to the same.
