18 lab monkeys, that were infected with Ebola were cured by ZMapp, an experimental Ebola drug. As per Reuters, these include the monkeys suffering from hemorrhaging characteristics of this disease and fever and had been hours from death.
Even the monkeys who hadn’t received treatment till 5 after the infection survived. Recently, success in primates hasn’t been shown by any other experimental Ebola therapy. 5 days of infection in animals is equal to 9 to 11 days of infection in humans.
Although, 2 American workers in Liberia who contracted Ebola were cured after receiving ZMapp, the physicians don’t know how this drug helped.

As per the WHO, the outbreak of Ebola in West Africa has killed around 1,552 people out 3,069 confirmed cases and the pace is infecting 20,000. WHO also said that this outbreak would continue till 2015.
ZMapp is a mix of 3 antibodies that bind to proteins on Ebola viruses and which trigger immune system for destroying them.
