When Microsoft announced their new operating system called Windows 10, the first thing that came to mind was “what happened to Windows 9?” It seemed that they skipped a number and went straight to number 10. Microsoft officials said that they named the new OS Windows 10 in order to distance themselves from the previous Windows 8 because they believe the new one to be a big step forward and not just an update. The new operating system is an upgrade and a follow-up to Windows 8 which was heavily criticized by businesses when it was launched in 2012. One of the main reasons for the bad reviews was that Windows 8 seemed to have too many confusing changes with the interface.
One of the best Windows 10 features is the return to their famous Start Menu. Windows 8 didn’t have it and people didn’t like that. With the new operating system, Microsoft has reintroduced the Start Menu and it sits perfectly on the bottom-left side of the screen. The app tiles that were on Windows 8 are still here and they appear in the Start menu, colorful and modern looking. If you don’t want to see the app tiles you have the option to hide them.
Another cool feature that Microsoft introduced with the Windows 10 is called Continuum. This can be used to change the interface on the device you’re using. This depends on whether you have a keyboard or a mouse plugged in. The Continuum feature was designed mainly for tablets, like the Microsoft Surface tablet, which is a hybrid device that can be used both as a keyboard or a tablet.
A new and improved search bar has been added to the Windows 10 so that the user can click the magnifying glass and activate the search dialog. The search bar works better and faster now especially when looking for files in your device.
What do you think of the new operating system from Microsoft called Windows 10? Have you tried it yet on any of your devices? Do you find it to be a better version that Windows 8?
