Do you ever wish to question Mac? In future, speaking aloud to Siri through Mac would be possible if a new Apple Patent Application ever launches.
Firstly, the patent was spotted by Apple Insider and through it the working of the desktop version of Siri is described.
For example, Siri can be summoned by performing some specific gestures such as forming a pattern on touchpads, clicking on something with the interface of OS X or holding a key.
Already, the dictate feature is being used by Mac Users in OS X 10.8 or later by tapping the “fn” or function key twice. However, that particular shortcut can be customized.
As per the patent, once Siri, is activated, the virtual assistant would use its smartness for knowing whether a question is being asked or a speech is being dictated. This can be done by the latest version of Dragon, by Nuance. When a command is issued, Siri has the ability of putting the instruction in context, on the basis of what is being done.
However, the most interesting feature that has been mentioned is the idea that for Mac users, Siri can act as a “Third hand”.
In other words, Siri can help in completing a task, when one asks for help. From the language of the patent, it sounds as if a task can be assigned to Siri for working in the background, till the time you complete your work.
However, no clear evidence is provided that Siri would be coming to Mac environment. New patent applications are filed by Apple every time, but not all are seen in the company’s products. Still, it is interesting to imaging, how Siri can translate to desktops, if Apple chooses to do so.
