Santa Claus is always on duty and sometimes he appears earlier. This year, Santa Claus is into aviation. Old as he is, Santa knows how to keep up with the latest tech advances so he decided to show up at the Military Aviation Preservation Society (MAPS) hangar, how else but in a single motor plane.
So, the west side of Akron-Canton airport received a special visit from the old men dressed in red who was awaited by many energized youngsters and parents , all holding up to greet Santa. The base has been regularly visited by Santa and his jet plane for ten years. His pilot, Kim Green from Beech City, Ohio has also been his flight companion for a long time. The event has a charitable end. Though Santa’s fans can enter the premises of the building and take photos free of charge, donations are welcomed and they go to MAPS. The event is also an occasion to support aviation.
Children and youngsters are of course the most interested in seeing Santa and coming to the event. A number of children were interviewed and their common opinion was that Santa has magical powers and he will bring them their desired gifts.
Every family attending Santa’s visit received a ticket with a number on it to make it simpler and smooth the queue to Santa. While in line, both children and parents were offered complimentary punch and sweets. They could also visit about the historical center and the gifts shop MAPS had set up. . A standout amongst the most famous displays was the Mig-17 which the kids could sit in. In a funny way, some of the smaller kids actually vanished from view while in the plane cockpit. All the children got a unique “Mig Pilot” card so they could remember the experience.
MAPS Board Chairman Bob Schwartz declared himself pleased with having the kids over the hanger and Santa introducing everyone to the festive atmosphere.
Over300 kids and their families appreciated going by Santa and strolling around the historical center. For a lot of people, the experience was a first and many pledged to come back at MAPS and visit it again because they were enchanted with what happened at the Christmas event.
Those who missed Santa the MAPS terminal needn’t worry. For sure he will pop up in other places as well, be they sunny and hot or snowy and cold.
