Things such as solar wind, magnetic fields, and geomagnetic storms play significant roles in what we experience here on Earth. We are influenced by the outer space weather conditions more than we think. The sun is constantly throwing charged plasma gas out into space. It creates a solar wind that actually creates those geometric storms. The storms here on Earth are felt through disruption of cell phone service, satellite damage and even blackouts to major power grids.
Millions of tons of charged, hot plasma gas is thrust by the Sun, each second. This solar wind collides with the magnetic field surrounding the Earth. As a result, it initiates powerful geomagnetic storms that can damage satellites, blackout power grids and totally disrupt cell phone service.
Moreover, experts gave some insight on the magnetic reconnection which is known as “explosive Phenomenon”. The theory deals with the incident that occurs when a solar blaze comes in contact with the magnetic field of Earth. In the laboratory of University of California Los Angles, a group of scientists examine the relationship between the plasma magnetic waves. This interaction of solar wind provides more details regarding the behaviour of hot plasma.
Researchers at The Plasma Physics Laboratory at The US Department of Energy have uncovered ground breaking data about the phenomenon. They finally understood how magnetic energy is transformed into particle energy. By means of a Magnetic Reconnection Experiment (MRX), the researchers established that the reconnection converts 50% of magnetic energy into highly explosive particle energy. From the other 50% of the magnetic energy, one third will heat electrons and the other two thirds accelerate the plasma ions.
Masaaki Yamada, lead investigator for the MRX, said it was a major milestone in the space weather research.
