The White House computers have been recently hacked into by, until now, unknown sources. Today it has been announced the ones behind this are Russian hackers who may have breached the White House unclassified computer networks looking for secret information.
The Russian hackers attacked the White House computers, which temporarily disrupted some computer services. The White House’s cyber security people worked to counterattack the hackers and fix the incursion. Some anonymous sources announced that the Russian hackers did not damage any system and no classified computer network has been breached, as far as the White House official sources know.
The National Security Agency, the Secret Service and the FBI are currently investigating the possible suspects responsible for the White House hack. It is not clear yet if any important data has been stolen from the computers.
An official of the White House stated that there have been an “activity of concern” while taking into account many possible cyber threats the White House is facing daily. The official said that the computer experts took charge of the situation immediately and they are still working on repairing the damages done. This has led to loss of connectivity for some of the employees at the White House.
It has been reported that White House officials discovered this hack earlier this month after they were alerted by an ally. Some of the people working at the White House have been asked to change the passwords on their computers and the access to Intranet has been shut off periodically.
The White House cyberattack was made public by The Wall Street Journal which reported some malicious codes found in the internal network of a company trying to steal US military secrets. The investigators from a private security company observed that the code used for hacking was programmed in Russian and was built in Moscow. This is how the officials deducted that Russian hackers could be responsible for the latest White House cyber attacks.
US officials said that it’s very difficult to determine if the attacks came from somewhere in Russia or if it’s the work of an unaffiliated criminal group of hackers.
