In the recent months, Comet Siding Spring has spread many dust and ice particles on the Red Plane. This incident led to the occurrence of thousands of shooting stars.
In addition, NASA has gathered data from two of its spacecrafts that are there in the space. They revealed important information about the structure of Comet Siding Spring and the atmosphere around Mars.
The data collected by NASA showed that the excess amount of dust and other fragments led to the change in the entire configuration and released a meteor shower. Moreover, the meteor shower led to the birth of different types of atmospheric alterations.
Jim Green, the new director of NASA’s Planetary Science Division informed everyone that the scientists were really amused by seeing the excess quantity of particles comet produced.
The large quantity of magnesium break down led to change in the electric charge present in the Martian atmosphere. In addition, sodium formed a yellowish shade in the night sky, which was observed by many people while parking their vehicles in the parking lit.
Later on, scientists told that it is the first time that they have observed this kind of activity in the atmosphere because of any comet. It also increased the layers of ions in the higher-most level of atmosphere. Some of the previous ions in this process were magnesium, iron, and sodium.
The most-worthy place to witness this meteor shower is the Martian Surface. However, it was very much impossible for scientists and experts to view this incident from there. Therefore, NASA helped by sending two of its rovers to record this amusing meteor shower. Unfortunately, the rovers were not able to document everything as some technical fault occurred while covering the meteor shower.
