With this Bluetooth tracking device called Tile you won’t lose your keys or phone again, the company says. Though it started as a small startup 18 months ago, Tile maker boasts with over 2 million tracking devices sold in less than two years.
On Tuesday, Tile announced a new version of the tracker with improved, new features. According to the company, you can now retrieve your last smartphone even when the device is on silent. The tag was also enhanced for a more extended range within it can signal back your lost item than the first version. Plus, Tile app now uses a community-based method of detecting items that are outside the tracker’s reach.
The tiny gadget can be attached to your tablet, smartphone, keys, laptop, backpack, dog, and even your kids. However, they need to be within a 100-mile range for you to be able to track them.
Besides attaching the tag you will need a device that runs the Tile app. So it is highly recommended that you install it on another device as well in case you wish to find your missing smartphone. The app however is absolutely free so you can download it for as many machines you want.
Once the app is installed, you will only need to press the ‘Find’ button to activate the tracker. The bluetooth tracking device will release a sharp, loud noise to guide you towards your lost possessions.
The tracker’s maker recently said that the latest version would issue a sound that is three times louder than the one delivered by the first version. The first generation of Tile trackers had a relatively low volume so you couldn’t hear it every time you planned to.
Tile app can be downloaded for both Android and iOS systems.
Additionally, the latest version has some novel features. One such feature is the “Community Find” function. Through this function, Tile tries to find your lost item located out of range via the smartphones or devices of other Tile users without them even knowing it. If Tile detects your lost keys, for instance, it will beam back a signal to the Tile network prompting you on where to find them on a map.
There is also the ‘e’ button which helps you retrieve your missing phone a lot easier and quicker than dialing your own number. All you’ll have to do is tap two times on the button, and you will hear a loud and sharp noise coming from your lost device.
Tile is even quicker than Find My iPhone and your friends can no longer make excuses that they cannot run the app when you need it the most.
