Prior to the untimely death of Mr. Trevor Tice, CorePower Yoga announced it will be opening its first studio in New York City in 2017.
Trevor Tice, a 48-year-old entrepreneur, was the founder of CorePower Yoga. California authorities discovered Mr. Tice dead in his home in San Diego, California, on Monday, December 12th, 2016. A friend of the deceased has called the police, saying that Mr. Tice was not answering his phone. The caller described the circumstances as troubling.
The yoga community is now mourning the tragic loss. Trevor Tice was a successful entrepreneur who started his business from a single studio in Denver, several years ago. Today, CorePower Yoga stretches from coast to coast, with studios scattered across the country to more than 150 locations. People who knew him well said that Mr. Tice focused on making yoga more appealing to larger crowds by renouncing the esoteric-oriented version of the practice and adopting a more energetic one, intended for fitness enthusiasts.
According to the owner and co-founder of Yoga Pod, Gerry Wienholt, Trevor Tice wanted CorePower Yoga to become “the Starbucks of yoga”.
“He did that”, says Gerry Wienholt.
As of now, details of Mr. Tice’s sudden death have not been released to the public. According to Lieutenant Mike Holden with the San Diego police, law enforcement officers are investigating what seems to be a case of mysterious death. Moreover, when the first responders arrived at the deceased’s house, among the array of peculiar circumstances they also found a trail of blood at the crime scene. It is yet unclear if this was a murder or an accident. Nevertheless, Lt. Holden does not rule out the possibility of a straight death.
Also, Christine Turner, CorePower Yoga spokeswoman said that the executive team will not be releasing details of the case to the media. Within the week, the San Diego coroner will perform an autopsy on Trevor Tice to learn about the cause of death.
Trevor Tice opened the first CorePower Yoga studio back in 2002, introducing a more energetic version of the practice through a mix of traditional poses with fitness. Together with five other teachers, Mr. Tice was holding four sessions a day. Over the course of the following years, CorePower Yoga started to spread to other states such as Minnesota, Colorado, Illinois, and Oregon. As of now, there are over 150 studios scattered around 20 states, as well as the District of Columbia. Prior to Mr. Tervor Tice’s death, CorePower Yoga announced it will be opening its first studio in New York City in 2017.
