The twitteratis seems to be irked over a recent experiment by the microblogging site Twitter as they have taken to the forum to express their disappointment by tweeting their angry reactions.
In the social media era, all the social networking forums including Twitter engage in keeping a beady eye on their rivals. But Twitter’s latest experiment on its ‘Favorite’ system has made its considerable chunk of users angry.
A sizable number of users are finding tweets favorited by others in their timeline. These favorites appear very much similar to retweets. Adding to the woes, the users are also receiving notifications for the same and also when others follow someone new.
Many twiterratis are upset with these new notifications as they feel that they are making unnecessary additions to their feeds.
Some of the angry tweets include:
Twitter filling my feed with stuff I didn’t ask for – stuff other people follow and fav. — Peter Kafka (@pkafka) August 17, 2014
@twitter so you’re showing what people favorite on my timeline now? Isn’t that what a RT is for? — Nathan William (@Treadzone) August 17, 2014
Ooh now twitter inserting selected “[person you follow] faved” tweets into main timeline— Hunter Walk (@hunterwalk) August 16, 2014
Why does my twitter timeline randomly show me what people have favourited and who they follow? I don’t give a shit — rosie (@rosieminney) August 17, 2014
I DO NOT WANNA SEE WHAT PEOPLE FAVORITE ON MY TIMELINE THANKS TWITTER — beverly. (@breadverly) August 17, 2014
The new experiment by Twitter completely flips the personal nature of favourites and makes them more public than ever before. They appear a sort of retweet.
Even if the users consider it a breach of privacy, but the problematic feature will by Twitter could continue over the coming months.
According to New York Times report, Twitter’s CEO Dick Costolo said that they are experimenting with Facebook-style algorithms that are designed in a way to figure out the best possible content for users.
