If you have ever dreamed about spending an out of this world vacation, NASA just made a few posters available that might serve your imagination. The posters are depicting images of newly found planets far, far away from Earth.
Kepler space telescope has spotted a few exoplanets outside our solar system. NASA wanted to present them to the word and found an interesting way to making them known to people. The organisation designed posters transforming the exoplanets in holiday locations. Out of the over 1,000 exoplanets discovered by Kepler, NASA, has created posters for only three of them and presented them as fictional tourist attractions.
The posters have been released by the “Exoplanet Travel Bureau”. The artwork, presents different snapshots of the planets, Kepler-186f, Kepler-16b and HD40307, and it is pictured in a retro style, reminding of the 1930s and 1940s. Creators have received a lot of positive background regarding the posters, which inspired them to create some more in the future.
Kepler-186f is about the size of Earth and it is located at a distance of 500 light years from our planet. Kepler-186f is orbiting around a red dwarf star called Kepler 186, which is a M1 type star and it is situated in the constellation Cygnus. In comparison to the sun, this star is much cooler and much more red and it serves as a home to four other planets. On the poster, the planet is promoted with the slogan “Where the grass is always redder on the other side.” NASA said that if planet Kepler-186f would sustain plant life its photosynthesis could have been influenced by the red wavelength photons of the star, which creates a color palette extremely different from the greens on planet Earth.
The second poster presents a so called “super Earth” planet named HD40307g, being two times bigger than Earth and having a mass eight times bigger than Earth’s. It is situated in the constellation Pictor at 42 light-years from Earth. On the poster it is drawn a skydiver who is plummeting towards the surface of the planet. HD40307 is the home to six planets, and HD40307g is the sixth one, being at a distance of 55.8 million miles. Since it is located in the habitable region of the system, the planet may contain liquid water.
The third poster NASA released, pictures Kepler-16b using the slogan, “Where your shadow always has company”. It represents a person standing on the planet and in the horizon there are seen two stars. Kepler-16b is made out of ice, gas and rock and orbits around star Kepler-16. The changes of being able to support life are slim, as it is situated in the outer areas of the habitable zones. According to NASA, life on this planet is quite impossible as it temperatures are resemblant of ice.
