Video of Cortana for Windows 10 Released

For those interested in what Microsoft is planning for the next Windows release, you should know that a video of Cortana for Windows 10 has just been released and shows some of its features. Cortana for desktop computers will be Microsoft’s new virtual assistant for PCs, tablets and laptops and will be equipped with all the cool features that can be found on the Windows Phone smart devices.

Unfortunately, Cortana for Windows 10 for desktop has not received much advertising but it could turn out to be one of Windows 10’s most important features. This could happen because the competition hasn’t proved to be very memorable. The most popular virtual assistant is Apple’s Siri, followed by Google Now, although Siri has not been made available for OS X and Google Now, although available on some desktops, is still locked inside Chrome browsers and not many users are aware of its existence.

The desktop Cortana for Windows 10 is trying to change all that the competition couldn’t manage to do. As it is the case with Cortana for Windows Phone, the version for desktop understands commands and queries in English and takes the appropriate actions the users require. Depending on the apps that the user installed, of course. The user can have desktop Cortana for Windows 10 call a contact, and can do that by launching Skype and making the call. Cortana for Windows 10 can also search the internet for info like weather reports and nearby restaurants and other places.

It all depends on the functionalities and database available on the user’s desktop. From the video released by Microsoft it appears the new Cortana for Windows 10 features a menu popup similar to the Start menu and has options for typing the queries or using the voice commands.

From what we’ve seen in the video, when first installing and activating Cortana for Windows 10, it doesn’t need to be activated by voice, but can be done with a click or a tap.
Windows 10 will be launched sometime next year and we will be able to see all the things Cortana for Windows 10 can do.
