Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook said that the Whatsapp Messenger service of the company could reach a mark of 3 billion users. Last February, the announcement of Facebook acquisition of WhatsApp was made. It has more than 450 million active users and has US$19 billion in stock and cash.
After the acquisition, Zuckerberg said that the main goal was increasing the number of WhatsApp users to 1 billion. Last month, the user base of WhatsApp was expanded to 600 million, as per some reports.
Despite its acquisition by Facebook, WhatsApp continues to remain independent from Facebook and will remain independent, should the user base reach 1 billion.
Facebook’s partnership with WhatsApp will give the latter more resources and opportunities to connect with people, Zuckerberg said. As per Zuckerberg, the more the people have a connection to the Web, the more room Facebook will get to grow.
Last year, the Internet.org initiative was launched by Facebook with an aim of giving internet access to several disconnected places. Until now, Facebook is working with telecommunication service providers for getting more people connected
Again, Zuckerberg voiced his goal fro bringing the internet to more people all across the globe. He said that Facebook which has a 1.3 billion monthly active user base, aims to connect everyone across the globe.
He added that “Even if Facebook has to spend billions of dollars over the next decade just to make it happen.
He believes that if all people are connected to the internet, businesses and national economies will be benefited in the long term.
