Mary Barra, the CEO of General Motors who was appointed this year announced the new technology on Sunday at Intelligent Transport System World Congress in Detroit. He said that “With Super Cruise, when there’s a congestion alert on roads like California’s Santa Monica Freeway, you can let the car take over and drive hands free and feet free through the worst stop-and-go traffic around. If the mood strikes you on the high- speed road from Barstow, California, to Las Vegas, you can take a break from the wheel and pedals and let the car do the work. Having it done for you — that’s true luxury.”
GM also has plans of installing the V2V or Vehicle to Vehicle transmitting devices in next 2 years. It means that cars can talk to each other and hazards can be sensed before they arise. This technology would be a life-saving one and is a common feature in the vehicles on roads. Self driving and talking cars on the horizon, though several complications and issues are seen that have to be solved. First of them is safety. Being 100 percent perfect of time is needed by these automated cars. The record rate of recalls this year is 29 million and GM is aware that they are not yet there.
It is critical that the working is flawless. There is a combination of technology that is used for making this work and this is not just for straight driving on a section of highway but for all situations that can be imagined.
