“World of Warcraft” developer Blizzard Entertainment has come up with its new gaming sensation after almost a decade.
Introducing a brand-new fantasy world to the gaming aficionados, Blizzard Entertainment on Friday pulled back the wraps on Overwatch, a team-based multiplayer shooter in the vein of Team Fortress 2.
The announcement was made on Friday during the annual BlizzCon expo opening ceremonies.
“With every new Blizzard game, we look at our favorite aspects of a genre and put our own spin on things,” Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, said in a statement.
While talking about the company’s expectations from the latest game, Morhaime said, “Our goal with Overwatch is to create an awesome FPS [first-person shooter] experience that’s more accessible to a much wider audience while delivering the action and depth that shooter fans love.”
The company has, however, not announced the final date for release the beyond a beta test next year.
According to the reports, the gamers will be offered with a range of new characters including humans, aliens, robots and a fascinating talking gorilla. People known to the matter said that the list is expected to grow bigger before the game finally launches.
The reports also suggested that in the game the players will fight the battle forming six teams across a variety of fantasy-themed maps.
The new game is set in a science-fiction Earth which is highly-stylised, consisting of themed maps located in technologically-enhanced cities and landmarks like an Egyptian bazaar having pyramids in the background or a hologram-lit London.
The company will be organizing a beta test that starts next year. Those who are interested to be part can apply at www.playoverwatch.com.
