The Apple users are facing a tough time while assessing popular applications of Facebook, Dropbox and others on their iPhones and iPad tablets as a latest software update by the company is causing the devices to crash more frequently, according to a report.
According to a report by an analytics firm Crittercism Inc, the Apple’s iOS 8 operating system (OS) is causing apps to crash about 3.3 percent of the time and 67 percent more than 2013 version of the OS.
Crittercism Inc. works with a big range of tech companies including EBay, Yahoo Inc and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia.
The high rate of crashes is barring the Apple users from assessing their favourite application. Apple customers in large numbers are filing their complaints to the company’s App Store, causing huge embarrassment for the tech giant which has recently received enough criticism over a cyber attack on its iCloud storage system leading to leak of many nude pictures of the celebs on the social networking forums.
Expressing his angst, one of the Apple users wrote: “Facebook’s app constantly freezes and crashes giving a bad experience.”
The file-storage service Dropbox has put out the updates to its app in order to fix the crashing problem it was having with iOS 8.
According to Crittercism.com, the reports of crashes are higher in the older iPhones.
Andrew Levy, Apple’s chief executive officer, said that the company’s latest software includes over 4,000 new functions and changes to which several developers are struggling to adapt. Levy also said that another probable problem causing the maximum crashes may be new coding language for programmers as they “get up to speed”.
“It just goes to show how hard it is to test everything before it’s sent out into the wild,” Levy said while adding, “As Apple has done with previous software releases, this time also it will make fixes to its iOS 8 software in the weeks and months ahead.”
When contacted Apple spokesperson Trudy Muller over the issue, she declined to comment.
