On Sunday, an Asteroid of the size of a medium sized house will pass near Earth. Until last week, this asteroid wasn’t detected. It would pass by earth at 1/10 of the distance between the moon and Earth, that is around 22,000 miles, as per Fox News Live.
This asteroid will pass through the space wherein the satellites are in orbit above the Earth at 2.18 p.m. EDT. on Sunday afternoon. The name of this asteroid is Asteroid 2014 RC.
It is reported by National Geographic that 2 observatory teams have discovered this asteroid on 31st of August. The nickname given to this space rock is ‘PitBull’. This is a matter of concern since it is a breed of dog.
The width of it is around 60 feet and would be closest to the Earth on Sunday afternoon. Slooh and Nasa would stream it live from Saturday night. This newly discovered asteroid would cut inside the orbits of Satellites. This is how the flying rock would come near the Earth. As it would fly above New Zealand it might fly near some communications and weather satellites.
However, this can’t be seen with the naked eye. A glimpse of this asteroid can be obtained with telescopes. However, the astronomers should look at the right place and the skies should cooperate. The world is looking forward to the information from the NASA. However, NASA has said that no threat would be posed by this asteroid.
