Anticipating the next Apple event which will take place tomorrow, October 16, when the new iPads and iMacs will be announced, the tech world seems to have forgotten about other gadgets that are scheduled to be released. One of those gadgets that will be available in the US starting next week is the new Asus Padfone X Mini. This hybrid gadget can be used as a tablet and as a smartphone, depending on your needs and preferences.
Inside the new Asus Padfone X Mini there is a 4.5 inch LTE powerful smartphone which you can slid into a 7- inch screen companion dock and use it as a tablet.
This hybrid gadget runs on Google’s operating system Android 4.4 KitKat and will see the light of day on October 23. One of the US carriers where the new Asus Padfone X Mini can be purchased is AT&T. The price is $199 if you buy it with a two-year contract. The new Asus Padfone X Mini will be available from other retailers starting November. Asus has not yet revealed when the Padfone X Mini will be available in other parts of the world.
As the name implies, the new Asus Padfone X Mini is a smaller version of the previous Padfone X which is actually a 5-inch smartphone that can turn into a 9-inch tablet if you dock it. The larger version of the Padfone X comes with a Qualcomm processor, while the Padfone X Mini runs on an Intel Clover Trail+ chip.
The Asus Padfone X Mini features a 5-MP back camera, a 2MP front camera and the tablet side of it will have a 1MP front camera. The Padfone X Mini comes with 1 GB of RAM and up to 64GB can be added thanks to the built-in microSD card slot. According to Asus, the Padfone X Mini features a 2.060mAh battery for the smartphone part, which can last for 15.8 hours of use. If you use the tablet side the battery lasts for about 28.3 hours.
