In a recent social media post, Bella Thorne admitted that she was sexually and physically abused “from the day I can remember till I was 14.”
She added that no one had taught her right from wrong so she didn’t know that what her abuser was doing to her was wrong. Thorne made the revelations on Instagram on Sunday.
She unveiled that the abuse stopped when she locked the door to her room at night and sat all night long by the door. “Over and over I waited for it to stop and finally it did,” the 20-year-old star wrote in the post.
She underlined that not all abused kids are “lucky to get out alive” and called for people to join Time’s Up anti-sexual harassment campaign.
On Twitter, she later unveiled that she had no idea that her abuser “sneaking into my bed at night” was not a good person.
Bella Thorne Opens Up About Being Molested
She decided to open up about sexual abuse at a time when dozens of celebrities attending the 2018 Golden Globes appeared dressed in all-black to protest abuse against women across all industries.
Some of the stars who picked black gowns for the night were Susan Sarandon, Meryl Streep, Emma Watson, and Laura Dern. The #MeToo” movement founder Tarana Burke was also present at the event.
Thorne first mentioned her experience with childhood abuse last month when one of her fans jokingly suggested that Disney molested her. Her reply was blunt: “Yeah I was. So it wasn’t Disney.”
Thorne, however, doesn’t shy away from expressing her views. In September, she shot a nude pictorial of herself to inspire other women on body positivity in an industry populated by perfect body images.
At the time, the former Disney star acknowledged that she too has insecurities about almost anything since it is “natural” and “human.” She added that it is normal to feel insecure about your own body.
