Kaci Hickox, the nurse who returned from Sierra Leone where she treated Ebola patients, was forced to remain in quarantine for 21 days. The Ebola nursed refused to comply with it saying that she doesn’t have any signs that she might have contracted the deadly virus. She also said that the quarantine is not democratic and she has been mistreated by the authorities and health officials when she arrived in the U.S.
A Maine judge said that the health officials should have acted more strictly and force the Ebola nurse into quarantine. The nurse was put under direct active monitoring and was told to announce the health officials and the authorities is she started to experience any Ebola symptoms like fever or vomiting.
The Ebola nurse Kaci Hickox was asked to stay out of public places like movie theaters or shopping centers because the risk to infect others is high.
The latest order was issued on Thursday and permits her to engage in “non-congregate public activities,” like jogging or walking and she must stay at least 3 feet away from people. The order forbids the Ebola nurse to leave her town Fort Kent without consulting the authorities.
Hickox was told to stay in quarantine for 21 days, which is the normal incubation period for Ebola, even though the nurse tested negative for the disease and has not shown any symptoms.
Hickox said that she is very healthy and that being forced to stay at home is not constitutional.
Hickox and her boyfriend went for a bike ride on Thursday and were trailed the journalists and a police cruiser.
The governor of Maine said the Ebola nurse is jeopardizing her own safety by leaving the house. He said that:
“The reason there’s a police car there when she does that is to protect her, more than anybody. ‘Cause the last thing I want is for her to get hurt. But at the same token, her behavior is really riling a lot of people up, and I can only do what I can do. And we’re trying to protect her, but she’s not acting as smart as she probably should.”
