Facebook adds SMS message support for all its clients, after the company said that it is developing a feature for customers to get, read and reply to an SMS-based conversation in the Messenger app for cellular phones.
The function, which could be offered if it receives an initial positive feedback, may help to move customers away from the standard messaging apps and make them to increase their time with Facebook’s software instead.
Also, it is added assistance for using the app with several accounts, which is an element designed for people who share gadgets. The online platform confirmed that their SMS assessments were ongoing following reviews of what seemed to be a return of the old SMS in Messenger.
As some tech websites mentioned, a few people noticed the new SMS configurations option that ensured that they use Messenger app as their SMS client. Whenever they were text messaging another person they app with the feature activated, the input field invites you to write the SMS message without other their-party program.
Any message sent as a SMS text would then be shown as a bubble, instead of Facebook’s app regular blue, the sources also said. Even if many of these days’ young customers may not recall, Messenger initially was managed as a SMS alternative application, besides being a good way to easily communicate with your friends on Facebook.
However, the organization redeveloped its program and included a feature for members to send messages to non-friends through their contact number. That information was provided within the recipient’s app.
In the meanwhile, Facebook removed the choice to actually deliver a SMS message, saying that this function had drawn less interest. Actually, the social network likely wished to make Messenger adoption a lot quicker, also by taking out the option from the standard Facebook application in 2014.
The news that Facebook could now be planning to provide SMS assistance to its Messenger falls in line with the organization’s declared perspectives for this year, which involved options to make users’ contact number disappear.
As some experts outlined a while ago, the Messenger app is ahead of the rest of messaging applications in the United States and its sole competitors are iMessage and SMS. Until now, the social network has already brought several major improvements in order to help get members away from utilizing their phone’s dedicated texting application.
Facebook released a function that lets anyone deliver message requests to any person on the site, which removed the necessity to know their phone number.
Such options offer privacy to this cellular texting app too, so while users can see these demands along with other details about their sender in the Ffiltered Requests directory, the sender does not really know if the receiver has read their message.
This function also permits a different kind of public interaction on Facebook, from people who are allowed to message other but are not their friends. However, to really destroy the SMS services, it appears that Facebook might have noticed that it should allow for individuals to use its Messenger app as their main SMS client.
