A fertility doctor from Canada is now being sued for impregnating women with the wrong sperm, in some cases his own. The one that is suing him could be his daughter. Rebecca Dixon is the one that is suing the fertility doctor because she discovered that he did not use her father’s sperm to impregnate her mother.
Rebecca Dixon looks nothing like her parents. They are both blue eyed with fair skin while she has brown eyes and an olive complexion. People have always asked her if she was adopted because she didn’t look at all like her parents.
The Dixons sought the help of a fertility doctor because they couldn’t conceive a baby. After they saw the Canadian doctor, they were able to conceive Rebecca.
26 years ago Davina and Daniel Dixon were blessed with Rebecca. The problem is that she might be only Davina’s daughter, not Daniel’s too. She discovered this when she made some blood tests. The results showed that she was Type O-positive while her father was AB. This means that she is not his daughter.
She took these blood tests after she was diagnosed with a hereditary condition: celiac disease. Neither Davina nor Daniel suffer from this disease, which was weird and promted Rebecca to investigate more by doing some blood tests. This is how she discovered that she is not Daniel’s daughter.
She is now suing the fertility doctor because they have suffered from his mistake. This is not the only case in which the doctor impregnated women with the wrong sperm. Three years ago, he was suspended because he used the wrong sperm on 4 different women. A year later, in 2014 he resigned from the order of Canada. This doesn’t please Davina or her daughter, their decision of suing remaining unchanged.
The jury might be on their side because his actions are illegal and dangerous. The sperm with which the women were inseminated could have had a disease that could have put them in danger. They all believed that is was their partner’s sperm while the fertility doctor used his or others’.
What is your opinion about this case? Do you think that the fertility doctor should be punished for what he did?
